This week in learning circle we discussed the importance of using our technology effectively. Students were asked to reflect on their current use of technology and were given key advice on different ways of managing their organization through their devices to be more organized and less distracted learners. Today we consolidated our learning with a Kahoot, in which the students were tested on what the strategies they have learned this week.

Fluency Friday!
Reading Fluency (Automaticity)
Our weekly reading fluency program is an integral part of reading development at Sagonaska. Fluent reading is described as occurring without immediate intention. Fluent readers are more likely to comprehend because it relieves cognitive load on working memory.
The Sagonaska Reading Fluency Program:
- Students are provided with a reading passage slightly below their independent reading level.
- A teacher or residence counsellor models fluent reading of the passage (paying close attention to punctuation, expression, pace).
- The student reads the passage to the adult, with the adult correcting errors immediately.
- The student reads the passage again.
**This routine occurs each day.
- Friday:
- Passage is projected so entire class can see (ELMO, Smartboard)
- Student reads passage in front of class while classmates use visualizing strategies (sculpting or drawing) to improve comprehension.
- Teacher and peers identify strengths and ONE next step for student to work on.
Contact Sagonaska Resource Services for suggestions on how to run your own reading fluency program in a regular school setting.
